The Runaways....

Its been nearly a week since the last time I wrote something on here. Most of my inspiration for writing has been put into short stories. Actually, I haven't even been reading which is a shame since I just started re-reading Lucy Monroe's Satisfaction Guaranteed. An amazing book if I do say so myself.

It's about 11am and here's the list of remaining things I need to do:

1. Go to Blockbusters and pick up The Runaways.
2. Finish up paper
3. Read at least a few chapters
4. Wash a load of towels.

As you can see, nothing worth blogging about.. let alone reading about. Hope you all are having an amazing Wednesday.

PETA Awareness

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, better known as PETA, is the largest self-proclaimed animal rights organization in the United States. With over 300 employess and 2 million members and supporters, PETA is a non-profit organization best known for its agressive media campaigns and dedication to wholeheartedly stopping the widespread torture and abuse of animals.

With a slogan like "animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment", PETA focuses on four main areas: Factory farms, Laboratories, Clothing trade, and the Entertainment industry. The organization works through public education, cruelty investigationsm research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, project campaigns, and also celebrity involvement.

Pamela Anderson, Kellan Lutz, Khloe Kardashian, Drew Barrymore, Alec Baldwin, Stella McCartney, and even Alicia Silverstone have all appeared in ads. Although there's a lot of controversy involving the women's ads being to racy, in fact women's rights activists have strongly worded their opinions over the years. Still billboards, magazines, and posters have been been flooded across the United States.

PETA activists have been seen at fashion shows across the world throwing red paint on the catwalk to protess against animal fur being used for the clothing. Also, undercover investigators have been sent into companies to spy on whether or not animal cruelty was happenning and a case could be made against them. One of the biggest and most publicized was the Silver Spring Monkey case.

The Silver Spring Monkey case first came to attention in 1981, which was a dispute about experiments conducted by Edward Taub. 17 macaque monkeys inside the Institute of Behavioral Research in Silver Spring, Maryland were being experimented on. The case led to the first police raid on an animal laboratory in the United States which triggered an amendment in 1985 to the United States Animal Welfare Act, and also became the first animal-testing case to be argued before the U.S Supreme Court.

As of late, I personally have commited myself to bringing awareness to this cause. How do you feel about the PETA organization? What sort awareness can you bring?

If you're following my joint blog The Attic Find, I will be doing a piece on faux fashions (Fur, leather, etc...). Feel free to check it out this Friday.

For more information you can visit their website at www.peta.org. There are volunteer opportunities that may also be available in your area. For more information on volunteering you can go to www.peta.org/about/volunteer.asp.  If you're a student ages 13-23 join the Street Team at www.peta2.com. There are ton of ways you can help. Visit the website to find a way. You can make a difference and help save the animals against all forms of cruelty.

James Rollins - The Judas Strain
What if you could bioengineer the next great world prophet: scientifically produce the next Buddah, the next Muhammad, or the next Jesus? Would it mark the Second Coming or initiate a chain reaction with disastrous consequences?

Gray remained silent. He knew such a threat, especially now, was no coincidence. He read the same understanding in the woman's eyes. "Someone knows," he said slowly. "after today's shooting on the Mall, no one will dismiss a bomb threat. It's the perfect cover to run a covert sweep of the building.

He turned to study the omphalos.

Time was running out for delicacy.

Where do you find inspiration?

Have you ever found yourself standing in line at Starbucks waiting for your iced coffee when all of a sudden inspiration strikes? The man standing behind you is sinfully sexy and you can't help but wonder what it would be like if you were to get to talking. The plot unfolds in your head, scenarios begin to take form, dialogue starts between the two characters you've imagined... Everything becomes clear and you can't help but smile and what's playing through your head.

Well my loyal readers, the very thing happened to me today. Minus the waiting in line at Starbucks (I could have really used a coffee) and having a sinfully sexy man standing behind me (I could've used that too). My point is inspiration usually strikes when you least expect it. It comes in all forms, like as a cute man you see at Starbucks or even a song you hear on the radio while driving home from work. Inspiration comes and goes when it wants to... Like some men I know but that's a totally off the topic.

Today my inspiration fairy decided to have a visit with me like it has been doing for most of the week. I was online checking emails, reading blogs, the usual when all of a sudden this male "friend" whom I haven't spoken with in over year pops up on my screen. We got to talking and by the time I knew it a story of "what if" began playing through my head like one of those black and white picture films. Yes I did say "what if". He's recently married you see with a child on the way but I didn't care about the guy, okay that's a lie I tried not to care but the only thing that mattered at the moment was me getting those thoughts down on paper. Those thoughts of "what if"...

The story? Well, it's a work in progress. The great thing about writing is you can mix fact with fiction. I can add whatever and whomever I want and no one will know what's real and what's not. It's a beautiful thing. Amazing actually.

So tell me, where do you find your inspiration? Does it hit you when you least expect it? Do you drop everything to get it all out of your system before it leaves? If you've been in a rut lately, I hope your fairy visits you soon. As for me, inspiration calls!

Taking the low road...

Dear Readers,

I am apologizing in advance if you are deeply offended. It is most certainly not my intentions to offend anyone nor is this about any of you lovely bloggers/authors/readers. It is simply a rant about... A certain man who thinks it's perfectly fine to talk about a certain someone to her brothers. I'm sure you all understand and hope that you continue reading.

I'm never one to complain about personal issues via blog nor do I name drop, which I don't plan on doing here (the name drop that is), but I am in a bit of a mood. You see, if I were a better person I would not write that:

1. I HATE you.
2. You make me sick
3. You're a fkn douche bag.
4. Grow the fck up.

and last but not least...

5. Never piss off a writer, you could just end up in her next short story.
(Which I have written and titled, The Breaking Point. Click here to read. Thank You for the inspiration.)

So this goes out to You. You know who you are. I hope you rot in hell and I could care less if you read this and it hurts your feelings because in all honesty, I am taking the low road here and I don't give a flying... You get the picture. I'm sending you a one-finger salute along with a big hearty F.U!

Happy Weekend!

"Weekends don't count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless."
--Bill Watterson
I just wanted to wish all of you who read my blog an amazing weekend. Hope it's filled with many pointless nothings. It is after all what Bill Watterson would have wanted.

I swallowed my greeting. He was wearing skin-tight leather pants tucked into thigh-high boots, so it was hard to tell where the pants left off and the boots began. The shirt was one of his typical shirts, something sort of 1700's, with mounds of ruffles at sleeves, and neck. But the color of all that silk was something I'd never seen him in. A vibrant blue somewhere between royal and navy. The color made his midnight eyes bluer than ever. His face was as always flawless, breathtaking. It was, as always, like some wet dream come to life, too beautiful to be real, too sensuous to be safe.

Happy Birthday Grandpa!

Today my grandfather will be celebrating his 90th birthday. 90 years old! I can't even comprehend how old that is. Just ten years away from 100. He's been through a lot over the years and even though he's extremely old fashoioned with a lot of things concerning his favorite grand-daughter, I still love him..

Happy Birthday Grandpa!

Fantasy Boy Draft 2010

Here it is! Our fantasy draft picks for this year. You may be wondering what exactly a "fantasy draft pick" is, right? Well, it's a lot like when men play Fantasy Football. We gather around picking men we want to well... you know, do the dirty with. What gal hasn't watched the movie Troy and thought about ripping Brad Pitt's armor off of him. That man is fine! Or what about Colin Farell or for you Twi-hards Taylor Lautner or Robert Pattinson? The choices are endless and therefore my friend Che'Lyssa, who I might add also has a blog and is an amazing writer so check her blog out, have made a promise to eachother that we have bragging rights on these men.

Note to Che'Lyssa: You may have gotten Ryan Reynolds but I ended up with Nathan Scott (James Lafferty), Zac Efron, and Channing Tatum.

Fallen

Because I still think of you from time to time...

Fallen - Sarah McLachlan

Heaven bend to take my hand
And lead me through the fire
Be the long awaited answer
To a long and painful fight

Truth be told I've tried my best
But somewhere along the way
I got caught up in all there was to offer
And the cost was so much more than I could bear

Though I've tried, I've fallen...
I have sunk so low
I messed up
Better I should know
So don't come round here
And tell me I told you so...

We all begin with good intent
Love was raw and young
We believed that we could change ourselves
The past could be undone
But we carry on our backs the burden
Time always reveals
In the lonely light of morning
In the wound that would not heal
It's the bitter taste of losing everything
That I've held so dear.

I've fallen...
I have sunk so low
I messed up
Better I should know
So don't come round here
And tell me I told you so...

Heaven bend to take my hand
Nowhere left to turn
I'm lost to those I thought were friends
To everyone I know
Oh they turn their heads embarassed
Pretend that they don't see
But it's one missed step
One slip before you know it
And there doesn't seem a way to be redeemed

Though I've tried, I've fallen...
I have sunk so low
I messed up
Better I should know
So don't come round here
And tell me I told you so...

Excited for Friday!

Tomorrow the weekend starts and although I'd be most likely standing in line for the Twilight Saga: Eclipse, I find myself not excited in the least for this movie. I think it comes down to the fact I have been quite obsessed with this series for a few years now. Ever since I read the books and before it became this huge phenomenon. Now, I just see Twilight everywhere and although I am still a huge fan of this series I find myself being bored with the whole ordeal.
What I am excited for is The Last Airbender. My brother and I one summer spent every day in front of the television watching Nickelodean's cartoon verson. Now to have this amazing cartoon being turned into a movie makes me estatic. I can't imagine how amazing all the special effects will be. It's a shame I live in this small town with a theater which is pretty much the highlight of every teenager's Friday night. There won't be a  3-D version of this movie here which I guess is ok. Just a little under 30 hours until I'm sitting in a chair, eating a tub full of buttered popcorn, and watching Aang kick some ass. I can't wait!
